The Post Office is once again stepping up to help those in need, with a new initiative that could provide low-income families with a £15 weekly voucher to assist in feeding their children.

The Post Office Payout service aims to assist individuals in obtaining grants for essentials such as school uniforms and food. This year, it is expected to distribute 1 million cash payouts to support those facing financial difficulties. The service is particularly crucial for low-income individuals who may not have access to traditional banking services. Postmasters play a significant role in their communities by providing essential support to vulnerable individuals.

How It Operates

The voucher scheme delivers vouchers via email or through a unique barcode sent by mail, ensuring accessibility for households without internet access. Vouchers can be redeemed at over 11,500 Post Office branches, allowing recipients to easily access funds for essential items like groceries and household necessities.

Simon Lambert, commercial & operations director at the Post Office, commented: “The Payout voucher scheme embodies the core values of the Post Office: providing support to those in need in a simple and accessible manner, led by Postmasters who are integral to their local communities.

“We understand that families relying on free school meals may face challenges during the summer holidays, particularly in areas such as Cornwall, London, and Yorkshire where demand for the voucher scheme is high.

“We are pleased that the Post Office can facilitate the voucher scheme nationwide, supporting communities while also helping Postmasters increase foot traffic and revenue.”
