Ownwell Partners with Valon to Reduce Property Taxes and Provide Transparency

Ownwell is thrilled to announce its partnership with Valon, aiming to provide transparency and reduce property taxes for thousands of homeowners. CEO Colton Pace expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Valon and Ownwell are both dedicated to empowering homeowners to make better financial decisions, and we are eager to see the positive impact of our work together.”

Jake Mintz, Valon’s chief product officer, also emphasized the goal of making homeownership more affordable through the partnership with Ownwell. Mintz shared, “We look forward to working with Ownwell’s experts to save homeowners millions of dollars from incorrect appraisals in 2025, building on our successful testing last year.”

According to Ownwell, over-assessed homes often result in higher property taxes due to inaccuracies in outdated appraisal systems. The company highlighted the significant financial burden this can place on homeowners.

Referencing a report by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, Ownwell revealed that up to 60% of homeowners overpay on property taxes, with a staggering 95% failing to contest these payments. Additionally, low- and middle-income borrowers are disproportionately affected by higher-than-normal property tax assessments.

In a recent analysis of property tax payments in Texas from 2022 to 2024, Ownwell found that homeowners who contested their property taxes had an average market value 1.58% lower than those who did not, underscoring the importance of challenging assessments.

Ownwell’s innovative approach involves identifying over-assessed homes and formally requesting reductions on behalf of homeowners. The company boasts an impressive success rate, with 85% of customers receiving a reduction and saving an average of $1,100. To date, Ownwell has successfully reduced assessments by over $10 billion.
