U. S. Steel Foundation Awards College Scholarships to Employees’ Children

By Matt Konrad

PITTSBURGH, June 05, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced it has awarded 20 college scholarships to students across the country. All the recipients are children of U. S. Steel employees. The scholarships are funded by the United States Steel Foundation and administered by Scholarship America.

“Our exceptional people have been and always will be the heart of U. S. Steel. By investing in our U. S. Steel families and the education of their children, we are not only honoring the hard work and dedication of our workforce but also fostering the next great generation of innovators and leaders,” said Tara Carraro, U. S. Steel.”

Since 1995, the U. S. Steel Scholarship program has awarded more than $4.4 million to more than 525 children of both represented and non-represented employees across the company to support their higher education goals. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievements, leadership and participation in school and community activities. This is one of the many ways in which we demonstrate our deep appreciation for our workforce.

This year, the U. S. Steel Scholarship program awarded 20, $10,000 awards ($2,500 per year renewable for up to four years) to current high school seniors. All winners will be enrolled full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the 2024-2025 academic year.

S. Steel Scholarship for a total of $7,500. The Maverick Award is given in honor of Barry Melnkovic, retired Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, to a student dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion either in study or extracurricular activities. The Trailblazer Award is given in honor of Christie Breves, retired Executive Vice President of Business Transformation, to a student pursuing a career in business or finance and who advocates for women.
