The University of Tokyo’s Summer Internship Program in Kashiwa (UTSIP Kashiwa) 2025 provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in various fields. This program, initiated by the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences in 2013, offers a rich academic and cultural experience in Japan.
Program Schedule
UTSIP Kashiwa 2025 offers two program options:
- Program A: May 26, 2025 – July 11, 2025 (47 days)
- Program B: June 16, 2025 – August 1, 2025 (47 days)
Key Highlights:
- First Week: Orientation, lectures by leading researchers, and Japanese language classes.
- Research Experience: Work under laboratory guidance after preparing a research proposal.
- Final Day: Present research findings and receive a Certificate of Completion.
Participation Fee
- Fee: JPY 50,000 (may be waived upon request).
- Fee waiver status will be communicated with application results.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
UTokyo provides financial assistance to UTSIP participants:
- UTSIP Scholarship: JPY 130,000.
Participants are encouraged to apply for external scholarships, such as Friends of UTokyo, Inc., MIT-Japan Program, Honda Foundation, and UCLA Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies.
Participants are responsible for their airfare and must arrange their travel to Japan independently.
Accommodation and Campus Life
- Participants will stay at designated accommodations like the International Lodge Kashiwa Lodge.
- Facilities include cafeterias and a sushi bar with meal costs ranging from JPY 400 to 700.
- Nearby stations, such as Kashiwa-no-ha Campus Station and Kashiwa Station, offer easy access to Tokyo and surrounding areas.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate students (Batch 2023).
- Batch 2023 students require permission from their academic supervisor due to potential graduation delays.

- University Transcript (English) with a GPA above 3.0/4.0.
- Certificate of Enrollment.
- Scanned passport (valid for at least one year).
- Valid English Proficiency Test Score (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC).
- Recommendation Letter from an academic advisor.

- Certificate of GCW Non-Degree or equivalent.
- Parental Support Letter (in Bahasa for ITS Students).

- Submit applications via Study Abroad ITS Form.
