It’s spooky season and that means competition for the cheapest pumpkin is high between the supermarkets this year. Aldi recently claimed to be the cheapest pumpkin seller – but is that true? If you want to have something to carve this weekend ahead of Halloween next week, we’ve compared pumpkin prices to help you get the best value.
Size Matters
The size of your pumpkin matters! If you want small decorations without carving, you can opt for small gourds or mini pumpkins. These are more expensive by gram, but look very cute and make nice decorations.
For pumpkin carving parties, you’ll want a mid-size pumpkin that is both value for money and easy for anyone to carve.
To make a statement on your doorstep, opt for a large or giant pumpkin. Keep your decorations safe by placing LED candles inside rather than real ones!
Which Supermarket Has the Cheapest Pumpkins?
Because there are so many different sizes and variations, we’ve chosen three options to compare: the smallest decorative size, the mid-range pumpkin carving party size, and the giants. Not all shops have giant options.
Supermarket | Small (Munchkin) | Medium | Giant |
---|---|---|---|
Tesco | 60p | £1.69 | N/A |
So, who comes out on top?
For those wanting small munchkin decorative pumpkins: Aldi! (By one pence)
For the pumpkin carving size: Aldi!
For the super-size pumpkin: Sainsburys!
So, there you have it: claims that Aldi has the cheapest pumpkin on the market this year is true for the most popular sizes, but Asda beats them to it when it comes to the oversized pumpkin for your porch.
